On the new deal, Robertson told Liverpoolfc.com: “As soon as the club came to me, it was a no-brainer for me I want to stay here, so as soon as they put an offer on the table it was signed as quickly as that.“I hope to achieve success as a team over the course of this new deal. This club demands trophies and too long has probably passed without trophies.”Left-back Robertson will be the latest in numerous contract extensions at Anfield this season. He joins Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Joe Gomez, who have all committed their futures to the club over the last six months. It could also see Liverpool’s current back four, who have been the meanest defence in the Premier League this season, play alongside each other in the long-term, with Robertson, Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold still in their early 20s.Meanwhile, centre-back Virgil van Dijk, 27 is a senior figure in comparison.Robertson joined the Reds from Hull for a mere 10million in July 2017 and is viewed by some Kopites as the club’s best left-back since fellow Scot Steve Nicol, who played the role temporarily in the late 1980s.Since joining Liverpool, Robertson was appointed captain of the Scottish national team in September 2018.Robertson has made the left-back position his own since joining Liverpool2
