West Ham are close to sealing a deal for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez, according to reports.According to Sky Sports, the Hammers will pay 40million for the 22-year-old but the move will not go through until the summer.2

The Uruguayan forward, once dubbed the newLuis Suarez, has risen to prominence inLaLigaafter a string of fine performances for Celta Vigo.The 22-year-old has netted nine goals and added a further five assists in 19 matches this term.West Ham were keen on adding Gomez this month, but due to Celta’s precarious league position they were unwilling to let him leave without a replacement. He will instead remain with the LaLiga club before linking up with his new team before the start of next season.Gomez spent his youth career with Uruguayan Primera Division side Defensor Sporting and remained their four four years.After impressing in his homeland he was then scouted by Celta Vigo and signed a five-year deal with the LaLiga outfit in May 2017.Meanwhile, Irons chiefs have now set their sights on signing Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater before the transfer window slams shut on Thursday.2
