Speaking to Paul Coyte and Lisa O’Sullivan on talkSPORT 2, Kennedy said: “That was a great team effort by Liverpool.“They showed great determination even on the back of not having two of their best players [Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino].Kennedy gave special praise to Henderson for his efforts against Barcelona3

“Jordan Henderson led his team by example. I thought he really stood up to the mark. He was tremendous in what he did, how he organised.“And they’ve got players like James Milner who can do a great job in any position and he had to fill in for Andrew Robertson.”Kennedy played a key role in the European Cups he won at Liverpool, scoring the winning goal against Real Madrid in 1981 and the winning spot-kick in a penalty shootout against Roma in 1984.The Barcelona match has been labelled as the club’s ‘greatest ever night at Anfield’ by Phil Thompson and Thommo’s former team-mate Kennedy echoed these views but also referred to their David Fairclough-inspired comeback against St Etienne in 1977.This is a match that will be remembered for many years to come among Liverpool fans3

Kennedy added:“That has to be the best ever. Certainly the best one at Anfield since David Fairclough did it in 1977 against St Etienne.“I still can’t believe it, I really can’t. It was such an emotional night. Who would have thought at the beginning of the game that they would have scored four goals against the mighty Barcelona?“Liverpool were okay in Barcelona, they built up the ball quite nicely and then Suarez and Messi did their bits but they never seemed to get a sniff last night.“It wasn’t luck, Liverpool created this. They took the game to Barcelona and Barcelona couldn’t cope with Liverpool’s onslaught. “Liverpool deserved it. I think the fans carried them over at the very end. They were FANTASTIC.“Even the end where I was sat where the ex-players are, everyone was on their feet, singing and dancing at 3-0.“We were all wanting to be on the pitch with the players.”Listen to the full interview with Alan Kennedy aboveLiverpool will play either Ajax or Tottenham in the Champions League final.Tune into talkSPORT this eveningto hear full commentary of their semi-final second leg clash, live from Amsterdam!
